Need a Starter Motor Recondition ?

We use a motoplat starter test bench for off vehicle performance testing of starter motor units.

We can source the majority of starter motor components such as armature, field coils, bearings, brushes, solenoid, starter drives, etc to allow a starter motor rebuild or recondition.
Battery and Starter solenoid cables and fittings will also be available through mail order

A starter motor is a device which engages with a flywheel on the vehicle engine and causes the engine to rotate from stationary until ignition occurs, ie, engine started. Starter motors for vehicles are mostly electric motors, however large engines may use a hydraulic, or pneumatic (air operated) starter motor, or even a smaller engine (donkey engine) to provide initial rotation (cranking).

The typical pre engaged vehicle starter motor requires three connections;

; battery positive supply from battery to the B+ (terminal 30) of the starter motor solenoid. (this is normally a heavy gauge red cable on many vehicles)

Ignition switched trigger wire to terminal  50 of the starter motor solenoid.  This wire provides the power supply to energise the starter solenoid coil when the ignition switch is in the engine cranking position.

B- Battery negative supply from the battery negative terminal to starter motor casing or engine block. (often a heavy guage braided cable)
